This is the sheet music for the harmonies and solo from my arrangement of the traditional Welsh folk tune/song 'Lisa Lân'. The arrangement comes from my audio EP, 'The Morning', which is all original compositions apart from this one.

The score you will receive is the building blocks for the full arrangement that you can hear above. It consists of the main theme, scored in three part harmony for three violins (although it can be played on other instruments) with chords for accompaniment, and an additional solo part (newly composed by me), which can be played alone, or over the top of the tune.

***NEW: as well as the original three part harmony version, I've added my four part harmony version which includes a bass/cello part. This comes as a separate pdf which is scored for string quartet (plus alternative parts for violin 3 and a viola version of the bass part) and comes with individual instrument parts.***

The main theme and its harmonies are very simple and easy to play, so would be playable even by inexperienced or beginner musicians. The solo is faster and more complicated, so this particular piece would be great for a mixed ability group.

In the audio track you can hear how I use the two main elements. My arrangement of them is as follows:

1st time all three parts of the main tune
2nd time main melody alone
3rd time main melody and lower harmony part
4th time main melody with solo part played over the top
5th time all three parts of main tune
6th time main melody with higher harmony
7th time solo part alone
8th time all three parts of main tune

You can use them in this format or any other that you like.

As it's such a simple tune it can be used in many different ways to form the full arrangement. In my arrangement I have swapped it around on different instruments to create different textures.

I have also included practise mixes of the two harmony parts, which have the harmonies turned up louder in the mix to help people learn them.

This is a folk song, and as such has lyrics. The original words are in Welsh. Not being a Welsh speaker I don't know those, but the English translation that I learned with this song was the following:

Oh Lisa Lân, the sea runs low
Why must I grieve and salt tears flow?
And why must love tell such sweet lies?
I care not if I live or die

In June the red, red rose doth bloom
But she does fade and die too soon
Why must my love unconstant be
And leave me sing green willow tree?

... and I can't find them anywhere else on the internet, so where this particular translation came from is a mystery!
